Occupational Therapy Occupational Therapy is a skilled treatment to help individuals gain independence after injury, illness, or disease. Our occupational therapists work in several settings that include outpatient rehabilitation, nursing home rehabilitation, home health services and pediatric/early intervention services. Within these settings occupational therapists will conduct patient evaluations and administer tests for strength, range of motion, endurance, and activities of daily living. Occupational therapy services provide for the evaluation and treatment related to hand and upper extremity rehabilitation, musculoskeletal disease or injury industrial rehabilitation. neurological disease, developmental delay, head injury, and learning disabilities to name a few. Other services include evaluation for adapted equipment, home assessments, and custom splinting. Outpatient Services Our occupational therapists specialize in the treatment of various disorders including but not limited to: Shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand injuries Upper Extremity Fractures Tendonitis/bursitis Tennis and Golfer's elbow Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (Conservative and Post surgical) De Quervain's Tendonitis Tendon Repairs Functional Capacity Evaluations Work Conditioning Treatment focuses on non-operative modalities to aid in healing and pain modification, flexibility exercises, progressive resistive exercises, patient education, wound care, positioning and implementing home exercise programs for prevention of reoccurrence. Nursing Home/Home Health Rehabilitation Within the realm of skilled nursing home rehabilitation or home health rehabilitation occupational therapists make personal independence a key goal in our treatment intervention. Through client centered treatment our therapists work with each patient to address their specific needs after injury in the areas of : Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) which include but are not limited to dressing, bathing and grooming independence, bed mobility and functional transfers such as tub/shower or car, self-feeding skills, and home management skills. Cognitive and Safety Skills which include reality orientation, money management/budgeting, fall prevention techniques and safety awareness. Orthopedic rehabilitation focusing on flexibility, strengthening, endurance, and pain modification. Patient education programs such as adaptive equipment training, relaxation training, energy conservation strategies, work simplification and joint protection training. Pediatric/Early Intervention Services In the area of pediatric occupational therapy the focus is on improving the child's skills and adapting the environment to promote functional performance. General pediatric conditions that require occupational therapy are: Cerebral Palsy Developmental Delay Sensorimotor integrative dysfunction Mental retardation Neuromuscular disorders Birth defects Behavioral Disorders (I.e. ADHD, Autism) Treatment programs offered through occupational therapy include fine motor skills, gross motor skills, visual motor skills, sensorimotor integration, neurodevelopmental techniques, and self care training.
